Jewellery Trend Predictions for 2023
Jewellery Trend Predictions for 2023
These are my TOP TEN Jewellery Trend Predictions for the
coming year:
- A resurgence in the popularity of PEARLS, with modern twists such as jumbo pearls and layering
- All things sparkling, COCKTAIL RINGS will be back with light catching crystals and gemstones
- LARGE EARRINGS – be they shoulder skimming’ dangle earrings or statement hoops
- HIGHLY EMBELLISHED WRISTS – through chunky cuff bracelets or layering of bangles and bracelets
- Jewellery with a FLORAL & NATURE Theme –decorated with flowers, shells and natural beads
- CHOKER/COLLAR NECKLACES – particularly ones incorporating logos and brand names plus this is another great way to wear crystals, and the catwalks were dotted with punk styles too
- STATEMENT PENDANT NECKLACES – the growing trend started in Winter 2022 for large and unusual pendants will continue, and pieces with uncut gemstones are predicted by the fashion weeks
- A surge in the popularity of SILVER; with the price of gold soaring it’s a far more affordable precious metal even though gold tones are always more predominant
- Handmade and crafted DIY items, which will hopefully promote the eco-friendly upcycled jewellery market
- BROOCHES – a return to this classic and versatile accessory which should help increase demand for vintage and second-hand items and is good news for the environment
I find jewellery a very personal thing, and that’s the
reason I behind the name Jewel Destiny Jewellery, as I believe there are
certain pieces that are destined for you; it’s almost as if they are calling to
you. I distinctly remember walking past a jeweller’s window in my mum’s home
town of St Ives and a silver ring with three colour gemstones caught my eye. I tried
to ignore it and get on with my errands but eventually had to go back to
purchase it. With cocktail rings and
sparkling crystal jewellery returning to vogue in 2023, this will definitely be
something I’ll be wearing again.
Most recently I was in a vintage clothes shop, and spotted a
little pewter platypus brooch. I didn’t say anything, but a couple of minutes
later my partner also saw it, and bought it for me straightaway. It was calling
to both of us. Crazy, given that I deal
in second-hand jewellery, to be buying some for me, but sometimes those special
pieces just cannot be ignored. For me part of the joy was to then research and
discover an artisan who specialises in pewter brooches and makes the platypus
one, so that I discovered the origin of this piece that is now part of my
collection. Since the Queen passing, and more photographs of her released
wearing some of her fabulous jewels, the popularity of brooches is back on the
increase.
Despite believing that I have never really been one to
follow a trend, my purchases will of course been influenced by what is
available to buy in the shops, so inevitably I followed trends, albeit usually
six months behind the times through buying items in sale or clearance once the
next trend had taken hold.
In the eighties I was always wearing long, statement earrings and hoops, some with bohemian influences and feathers. It’s funny to notice through researching the fashion weeks for 2023 that these will be back in trend. My basic “good” jewellery collection started around my 21st birthday, when I was given my Grandmother’s engagement ring; a beautiful Edwardian diamond trilogy gold ring. It’s beautiful, and will be a family heirloom I’ll hand down to my daughter, but I’ve rarely worn it as I’m too scared of losing it. I was married a month later and my Mother gave me a classic short necklace of pearls which I wore on the big day, along with pearl earrings that had also been a 21st birthday gift. Pearls are such a jewellery classic, and I see this year they will be popular again, with the twist of finding ‘modern’ ways of wearing them. I’ll be talking about this in other posts through the year.
